The UMKS Tournament took place in Woodside, California on Saturday, April 20th, 2024. The sportsmanship of competitors and the consistency in judging was a sight to behold. Black Belt competitors competed to earn the honor of Grand Champion. To be eligible to win Grand Champion, competitors had to be well rounded in all aspects of their art. The had to compete in the following events: Open Hand Forms, Techniques, Staff Form, Sword Form, Self Defense Routine, Sparring and, if adults, Breaking. There were point values for the placements achieved: 1st place = 5 points, 2nd place = 3 points, 3rd place = 2 points and 4th place = 1 point. The points earned were tallied up for each competitor in each category. The competitor that earned the most points and earned at least one gold medal was awarded the honor of Grand Champion.
