🌏 UMKS World Championships 2025 – A Celebration of Skill, Strength, and Spirit

The UMKS World Championships brought martial artists from across the globe together at the prestigious Oriam Sports Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland for an unforgettable weekend of competition, camaraderie, and cultural exchange. With over 300 competitors representing schools from around the world, the event showcased not only technical mastery, but also the heart, dedication, and sportsmanship that define the UMKS family.


A Historic First – Oon Hak Hyung Competition

This year’s tournament introduced the inaugural Oon Hak Hyung competition, a form that emphasizes low stances, building the foundation for leg strength, endurance, and balance. The skill and determination displayed in this division were nothing short of inspiring. SBN Richard Steel of Steel Traditional Martial Arts in Perth, Scotland, emerged as the overall Oon Hak Hyung Champion, setting a high standard for future years.


Mirae Ki Cho Hyung & Mirae Cho Geup Hyung

Two of the most highly anticipated events of the weekend drew massive participation and fierce competition.

  • Out of 77 competitors in the Mirae Ki Cho Hyung event, JKN Diego Lopez from Menlo Park Martial Arts was crowned the overall winner.

  • Out of 81 competitors in the Mirae Cho Geup Hyung event, KSN Adrienne Nguyen from Burlingame Martial Arts took home the title of overall winner.

These events truly showcased the next generation of martial artists demonstrating focus, precision, and dedication.


Grand Champions – The Best of the Best

The coveted Grand Champion titles were awarded to competitors who accumulated the highest points across multiple divisions. These martial artists demonstrated not just technical precision, but consistency, adaptability, and competitive excellence.

  • 1st Dahn (39- Male) – JKN Edan Marlow, One Mind Martial Arts – 28 pts

  • 1st Dahn (40+ Female) – JKN Jennifer Roberts, One Mind Martial Arts – 32 pts

  • 2nd Dahn (Youth Male) – KSN Jovanni Fleites, Sah Do Mu Sul – 30 pts

  • 2nd Dahn (Youth Female) – KSN Lillie Hankins, Sah Do Mu Sul – 23 pts

  • 2nd Dahn (Adult) – KSN Brock Miller, Clemson Martial Arts – 26 pts

  • 3rd Dahn (Under 50) – BSBN Gianna Fleites, Sah Do Mu Sul – 40 points

  • 3rd Dahn (Over 50) – BSBN Anne Marie Rector, Sah Do Mu Sul – 33 pts

  • 4th Dahn – SBN Natalie Rector, Sah Do Mu Sul – 32 pts


Mirae Champions – The Rising Stars

The Mirae Champion titles honor competitors who excel in the special Mirae divisions, representing the future of UMKS. These athletes stood out for their skill, focus, and determination.

  • 1st Dahn (15-17 Male) – JKN Evan Eng, Burlingame Martial Arts – 14 pts

  • 4th Dahn – SBN Richard Steel, Steel Traditional Martial Arts – 16 pts


Promotions & Milestones

The UMKS World Championships also marked a momentous occasion for three distinguished UK martial artists, each earning the prestigious rank of 5th Degree Black Belt / Master. These promotions reflect decades of dedication, leadership, and service to the martial arts community.

  • KJN Abbie Edmiston – One Mind Martial Arts

  • KJN Richard Steel – Steel Traditional Martial Arts

We congratulate these Masters on their remarkable achievement and thank them for their continued commitment to inspiring the next generation of martial artists.


Demonstrations & Evening Showcase

The day concluded with an electrifying demonstration that left the audience inspired and energized. The showcase featured performances from the One Mind Martial Arts Summer Display Team and the Evolution Martial Arts (UK) Summer Display Team.

Newly promoted black belts took to the floor, joined by students from Evolution Martial Arts (UK), One Mind Martial Arts, and Steel Traditional Martial Arts, each delivering dynamic and powerful routines.

Masters from both the UK and USA captivated the crowd with a variety of forms, techniques, weapons demonstrations, and self-defense routines.

The evening reached its peak with CSJKJN Sung Jin Su performing the 2nd Oon Hak Hyung — the first time this form has ever been presented publicly. It was a historic and motivating moment, leaving everyone with a renewed sense of pride and purpose in their martial arts journey.


A Global Martial Arts Family

Beyond the medals and titles, this year’s championships celebrated the shared values of respect, perseverance, and unity that bind our UMKS community together. From the youngest white belts to the highest-ranking masters, the weekend was a powerful reminder that martial arts is about more than competition—it’s about connection, growth, and legacy.
